Super Eagles goalkeeper has expressed gratitude to God after carting home Man of the Match award in their 2-0 defeat of Sierra Leone in Monday’s WAFU Cup of Nations Tournament Group A clash in Ghana.
“Thanks to God almighty for this prestigious award,” stated the FC IfeanyiUbah first choice that pulled off brave saves during the encounter, much as he recently did against Benin Republic and the double-legged 2018 World Cup qualifying tie against Cameroon.
Nigeria scored late into the match at the Cape Coast Stadium in Takoradi, with Osas Okoro and Peter Eneji finding the back of the net on 84 and 87 minutes respectively.
The victory takes Nigeria into the tournament’s group phase contest that will see the surviving eight teams divided into two groups of four teams each.
Hosts Ghana and Guinea are through to the group phase of the completion that is bank rolled by FOX SPORTS.
Ghanaians needed a controversial 90 minute party to see off The Gambia 1-0 and Guinea came from behind to edge Guinea Bissau 2-1.
Eagles’ Head Coach, Salisu Yusuf is using the tournament as part of preparations for next year’s 5th African Nations Championship, for which Nigeria has qualified after edging Benin Republic on aggregate.
