Unpaid Sign-On Fees: Rivers Utd Players Thank Gov Wike For Continued Support

Rivers United captain Festus Austin has, on behalf of the team, thanked Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for his continued support to the club.

The players are appreciative of the State’s number one citizen’s promise to offset their 2014-2015 sign-on fees, over which they staged a protest at the State Government House bearing placards of different inscriptions on Tuesday.

Austin has also described the Governor as the number one supporter of the club and thanked him for his promise to offset the 2014/15 sign on fees owed players of the club. Austin has also promised that the players will give their all to all in the upcoming season.

Addressing the controversy raised by a photo circulating on social media, Austin explained that the players were merely thanking the Governor for his swift intervention. He added that Governor Wike politely asked them all to stand up as he’s only a servant to the good people of Rivers State. He noted the photos were in no way meant to malign Gov Wike or the good people of Rivers State.

To this end, four players and one official of the team will be on  Beat FM, Naija FM and Classic FM this evening to speak on yesterday’s event.

Pictures of Tuesday’s protest soon became talking points on the various social media platforms, especially the one above, which shows Wike ordering two apologetic players out of his sight.
