Ex Monaco striker, Victor Nosa Ikpeba believes the Ligue 1 side can avenge their 1998 defeat to Juventus in the UEFA Champions League semi-final in May.
The former Nigeria international who scored 55 goals in 169 matches for Monaco between 1993 and 1999, was a member of the team, which lost 6-4 to Juventus at the same stage of the 1997/98 edition. The Italians triumphed 4-1 in the first leg in Turin while the corresponding tie in France ended 3-2 in favour of Monaco.
While reacting to the recent draw that pitched both clubs in the first semi-finals, Ikpeba recalled his confrontation with Edgar Davids, who played a pivotal role for Juventus on both occasions. The uploaded a picture of himself jostling for the ball with the former Netherlands midfielder on his Instagram page and stated: “” This man @esdavids was on the @juventusfcen team that day, 19 years ago against @AS_Monaco_EN. It’s our turn now.”
Monaco will host Juventus in the first leg on May 3 while the return will take place in Turin on May 9. Cup holders Real Madrid will lock horns with neighbours Atletico Madrid.
