Nigeria defender William Troost-Ekong on Saturday penned an emotional farewell message to KAA Gent following his transfer to Bursaspor the previous day.
“I would like to say a big thank you to all the fans of @KAAGent for supporting me in my short time with the club. I enjoyed playing in front of you in the Ghelamco Arena. I wish you all the best the coming season in the league and playing in Europe. Thank you Buffalos! #Buffalo #COBW,” stated the 23-year-old.
The central defender joined the Belgian club in July 2015 after being linked with a move to Celtic among others. He was immediately loaned to Norwegian club FK Haugesund, where was made captain of the team at the beginning of the 2016 season. At the end of the 2016 season, he was named in TV 2 Sporten’s team of the season, and was ranked by WhoScored.com as the 3rd best performer all season in the Tippeligaen statistically.
Troost-Ekong returned to Gent in November he returned to Gent, rendering two assists in eight appearances.
He joins Bursaspor in a €2 million on a three-year deal.
“Nigerian defender William Troost-Ekong and his club in Belgium KAA Gent have agreed in principle and the player will sign a three-year contract after tomorrow’s health check,” Bursaspor announced on their website.
