Tears flowed freely across the land on Monday morning over the death of Kano Pillars defender, Chinedu Udoji.
Sportsrollcall.com gathered that the former Enyimba player lost his life in a tragic accident along Club Road in Kano after visiting his former team mates at after putting up a sublime display against Enyimba in an NPFL matchday 8 encounter that ended 1-1 at Sani Abacha Stadium. He reportedly died on the spot.
Udoji, 28, is survived by his wife and children.
His death has left the Nigerian football fraternity enveloped by grief, ith messages of condolences streaming in mass media across the nation.
The Nigeria Football Federation reacted to the shocking news on Twitter thus: “The demise of @pillarsfc defender Chinedu Udoji comes as a rude shock to us this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and club. May his soul rest in peace. #RIPUdoji
Lagos-based Nigeria National League, Ikorodu United stated on the social media platform: “The Management of Ikorodu United Fc sympathize with @pillarsfc & Family Of Chinedu Udoji. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and club. May his soul rest in peace. #RIPUdoji
His former club, Enyimba FC, where he served as captain for some years wrote: “We are distraught at the news of the passing of club legend and former captain, Chinedu Udoji. Our commiserations are with his family at this time.
Nigeria Professional Football League giants Rivers United FC stated: “We commiserate with @pillarsfc following the demise of centre half, Chinedu Udoji. Stay strong in these trying period
Another NNL side, who were relegated from NPFL last season, Remo Stars FC stated: “There are no words to express our sorrow for the loss of your player and one of @LMCNPFL finest defender, Chinedu Udoji. May you find comfort in the loving memories you shared while he was alive.”
