Real Madrid are not taking lightly Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent comments about his readiness to leave the club when the right occasion arises.
According to popular Spanish newspaper Marca, the club’s president Florentino Pérez waylaid Ronaldo when the Real Madrid players arrived at the Bernabéu ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with PSG.
Perez made the most of the opportunity to rib the Portuguese star about his interview with German magazine, in which he seemed open to the idea of leaving the club.
“What did I say? I didn’t say that! I said something different”, Ronaldo replied as he made his way towards the dressing rooms.
“Leave Real? Why not? For the moment I play for Real Madrid, but you never know”, Cristiano was quoted as saying by Kicker. “You need to do what makes you happy, and nobody knows what’ll happen tomorrow”, he supposedly added.
These quotes sent shockwaves through the hearts of the ‘Los Blancos’ fans, who are not ready to say goodbye to the man who just recently became the club’s all-time leading scorer and are hoping to see the 30-year-old keep adding to his tally for some time yet.
PSG seems Ronaldo’s next destination after the same newspaper reported that the Portuguese star winked at the club’s chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi at the mixed-zone on Tuesday night.
The footage captured by Spanish TV show El Chiringuito shows Ronaldo offering Nasser Al-Khelaifi a warm greeting. He first tapped the PSG chairman on the shoulder to get his attention and then the pair exchanged a friendly handshake. The Portuguese star subsequently winked at the Qatari, who responded by giving Cristiano an affectionate clip round the back of the head to send him on his way.
The scenes make for an interesting comparison with Ronaldo’s chat with Florentino Pérez at the Bernabéu before the game against PSG, in which he told the Real Madrid president that his comments about leaving the club had been twisted.
Ronaldo’s compatriot and former Deportivo and Salamanca striker Jean Pauleta recently told Radio MARCA PSG would be a good place for Ronaldo to go.
“PSG deserves to have a player of Cristiano Ronaldo’s quality. It would be a good place for him to play for two or three seasons”, he said.
