Nigeria suffer first defeat at 2017 FIBA Afrobasket

Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday punctured Nigeria’s win streak at the 2017 FIBA Afrobasket Championship in Tunis, edging the defending champions 77 -83 in a Group A match.
It was the first defeat to the D’Tigers, who had defeated Cote d’Ivoire and Mali to assume leadership of the standings, but fell behind the victors after Sunday’s loss.
Nigeria led for first three quarters, but were overpowered by COD in the fourth with 31 to 22 points.
Bryant Mbamalu was the star performer for the West Africans with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and efficiency +22.
Mali and Cote d’Ivoire faced off the group’s other game on Sunday night.
