Nigeria Football Federal has finally announced Thomas Dennerby as new coach of senior women’s football team, the Super Falcons.
President of the football body, Amaju Pinnick disclosed this in a series of tweets on Thursday.
The team have been without a coach since winning the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations staged by Cameroon in December 2016.
“I’m pleased to announce that we have signed an agreement with top Swedish football coach Thomas Dennerby, whose contract will run until 2020. There’s always an option to renew if KPIs are met but I’m so confident that our football will get to the next plateau,” stated Pinnick, who earlier in the week revealed the body was on the brink of announcing a new handler of the team.
He continued: “Dennerby comes with his assistant and highly experienced Swedish coach, Jorgen Petersson, but the Technical Committee of NFF has already shortlisted three Nigerian coaches to work with Dennerby. These coaches will be announced soon.
“Dennerby was in charge of the Swedish women national team for seven years and our board has always insisted on a world-class coach to take our women’s national football teams to the next level.
“The Super Falcons are already the biggest women’s team on the continent. It’s time to make them world champions now while ensuring the sustainable development of women football in Nigeria. With hard work and God on our side, we will be world beaters.”
