New NFF Boss Giwa Restores Allowances For Age-Grade Teams


The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF has assured Golden Eaglets coach, Manu Garba and his team of all the necessary support as they prepare for the African Under-17 regional qualifiers in Niger Republic.

The board members who were on a fact finding mission visited the Eaglets at the FIFA Goal Project Package B of the Abuja National Stadium,and the Flying Eagles at their Chida Hotel camp.

Effiong Johnson, who spoke on behalf of the board, conveyed the best wishes of the NFF President, Ambassador Chris Giwa to Coach Garba, saying “we are here at the instance of the President who would have loved to be here to see you and the boys”

“Mr President is however unavoidably absent as he had to attend another urgent meeting as we were about to leave, but he sends his greetings” Effiong said.

The Chairman of chairmen enjoined the team to be focused and continue to work towards success at the qualifiers in Niger Republic.

“Mr President said you should choose the best players available as no board member will choose or impose any player on you”

He added, “the issue of funds, your allowances and training materials you talked about will be addressed soon, just focus on your Training and be rest assured you will have no cause to worry.

Effiong however requested that Coach Garba submit his needs in writing alongside the names of the 60 players who will be shortlisted for the Magnetic Resonance Imaging, MRI ahead of the qualifiers.

Earlier Coach Garba had highlighted some of his challenges to include training materials, the need to subject the players to the MRI fast and allowances for the team.

“Once we are done with this MRI, we will move into close camping with 30 or 35 players who scale the hurdle for the qualifiers coming up from August 19”.

Coach Garba further stated that “I have no doubt that the players we have will do the country proud at the regional qualifiers in Niger Republic”

“So far we have played nine friendly matches with teams from across the country scoring 65 goals and conceding nine,” Coach Garba concluded.

The board members who were on the tour include Dr Shehu Adamu, Muazu Suleiman, Sani Fema, Yahya Adama, and OTUNBA Sunday Ajayi. The NFF Technical Director, Bitrus Bewarang also accompanied the team.


Meanwhile, the Flying Eagles will depart tomorrow Thursday for the final round qualifiers against Mauritania.

Chairman of chairmen, Effiong Johnson broke the good news to the team as the board members visited the team at their camp at chida hotel, and also promised that their outstanding allowances will soon be paid.

“So do not worry yourself about what is happening with us, just face your job, as we are doing all we can to make you comfortable in camp”

“Whether as coaches or players, let us be focus-minded, face the task before us and avoid any distractions” Effiong said.

Captain of the team, Ikouwem Udoh Utin thanked the board members for coming to see them and the good news that they will be traveling tomorrow, Thursday which has brightened the atmosphere in camp.

Coach of the team, Paul Aigbogun also thanked the board for the visit.


In the meantime, the National Under – 20 team, the FALCONETS have received assurances that all their allowances will be paid before the team departs for the World cup.

Board member, Effiong Johnson who spoke on behalf of the board thanked the team for the patience and understanding since their camping started and promised that all their needs will soon be addressed.

“I want to remind you that as our Ambassadors always compete in tge spirit of fair play and above all, look away from whatever is happening outside the pitch because Nigeria is bigger than every one of us”

Johnson said “the President would have loved to be here but other pressing matters have kept him away but he sent his good wishes”

Responding on behalf of the team, Captain Famuditi Kemi thanked the board members for the visit and promised that the team was determined to win the Fifa Under-20 world Cup in France.
