Kayode Unfazed By Competition In Shakhtar Donetsk Attack

Olarenwaju Kayode said he is by no means threatened by the caliber of players in Shakhtar Donetsk attack.

The Nigeria international on loan from Manchester City for the remainder of the season, said this during his first interview on the club’s official after his unveiling on Thursday.

“They are great players. I am also an attacker, and we will all try to benefit the “miners”. Joining this team is great for me! I will do my best to do my job well,” the former Austria Wien striker said when asked if he wasn’t afraid of competition from other three forwards, Ferreira, Blanco Leshchuk and Fomin.

He added: “From year to year I heard more and more about Shakhtar and watched it. “Miners” are constantly performing in the Champions League, I like the style of football that they demonstrate. This is one of the top clubs. Today everyone in Europe knows Shakhtar, so I’m glad to be part of the team.

“Recently, I played a little in Spain, experienced a difficult moment in my career. I consulted with my family, and my wife supported my decision to join Shakhtar. I think that this is the right choice. I cannot wait to train and debut!

“When I played for “Austria”, we had a friendly match against Shakhtar. I did not play then, but I know Fred, Marlos, Bernard … I’ve seen a lot of fights – fantastic players here.”

Kayode joined Manchester City in August 2018 from Austria Wien and was immediately loaned to Spanish side Girona, where he was denied sufficient playing time.
