“We keep in touch with both Taiwo and Liverpool and formally he is on loan to Frankfurt until the summer”, Kalmar sports manager Thomas Andersson told Kalmar 24.
Kalmar saw Liverpool pip them to the signing of the youngster, who turned out for Nigeria at the Under-17 and Under-20 World Cups before progressing to his country’s Under-23 side at the age of just 18.
The Swedish side though, who are exploring a possible partnership with Liverpool, have vowed to keep tabs on the player’s progress and say they are in touch with the Reds and the player.
Awoniyi, a member of the triumphant Nigeria ‘s U-23 team at the recently concluded second edition of U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal, has played just once for FSV Frankfurt so far this season, in the German Cup for 18 minutes.
