Al Ahly striker, Oluwafemi Junior Ajayi, is happy to be named the Best Foreign Player in the Egyptian League for this season.
The 22-year-old expressed his delight in a post on Twitter on Tuesday, three days after he bagged the prestigious award during the annual Ahram Awards held on Friday evening in Cairo.
“I’m happy to be awarded the BEST FOREIGN PLAYER IN THE EGYPT LEAGUE. Thank God. Tnx to @AlAhly. #YallaYaAhly #Russia2018 #AjayiJnr #HopeAndPray #WorkHardPlayHarder #RoadToFourth,” stated Ajaym, who scored eight times to help Al Ahlay to the Egyptian Premier League title with about six matches to end the campaign.
His teammate Ahmed Fathi was also given the player of the year award.
Ajayi, who has scored a total of 16 goals in 44 matches since he joined Al Ahly from CS Faxien of Tunisia in 2016, has been named in the Nigeria 28-man squad to play Poland and Serbia in World Cup tune-up games later this month.
The invitation to the Super Eagles caps an eventful year for Ajayi, who was named in the CAF XI in a recent CAF Awards.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly director of football Sayed Abdel-Hafiz has denied rumours that the young Nigerian international will be sold at the end of the season.
“Ajayi is one of the important players in our team and there is no plan to sell him at the end of the season,” Abdel-Hafiz told the club’s official website.
“We have not received any formal bids for him and we don’t have any reason to sell an important player like Ajayi who has distinguished himself since his arrival here.
