Changchun Yatai striker, Odion Jude Ighalo, has dedicated his Chinese Super League Player of the Month to his coaches and team-mates, adding that the feat would not have been possible without their contributions.
“This is my first time winning in China, but this award is not a one for me. For the team’s collective gain, my goal came from my teammate’s pass to me and cooperation with the coaching staff,”stated the 28-year-old Nigeria striker who scored six goals in the month of April.
In April, Ighalo, the former Watford player did not only scored four times in their 5-2 win away to Guizhou on April, but also scored twice in the game against Shanghai at home the following weekend.
A streak of outstanding performances saw Ighalo beat With outstanding Tardelli, Huang Zichang, and others to the Tencent Sports’ “Super Heroes” in April. He received the award on May 16th after training at Yatai Jingyue Base.
“Super Hero” is a Super League best player selection activity initiated by Tencent Sports. Five expert judges and 12 media personnel participated in the selection. The award came on the same day Ighalo was named in Nigeria’s 30-man provisional World Cup list by Coach Gernot Rohr. He has scored 7 goals and rendered two assists in 10 matches this season and was the team’s top scorer last season with 16 goals and two assists.
