Iheanacho set for Man City exit.
Pep Guardiola is not prepared to give any assurances about Kelechi Iheanacho’s future at Manchester City, reports Manchester Evening News.
Asked if he has made up his mind on whether he wants the Nigeria striker to remain part of his squad next season, the Spanish coach said: “Kelechi is a young player who is clever in the box, he is strong, fast and has a sense of goal.
“He is not playing more or less because of my decision, and everybody can discuss about that.
“Like I said before to your colleague, at the end of the season we will talk about Kelechi and individual players.”
The Nigerian has slipped down the pecking order after a bright start under his new boss. He hasn’t started a league game since January 2 – before Gabriel Jesus arrived at the club – and looks set to end this campaign with fewer starts than he managed under Manuel Pellegrini.
Guardiola has plenty of decisions to make this summer, and indicated that he has made up his mind on every player that is out of contract at the end of the season.
Iheanacho, who is being linked with a loan move to Hoffenheim, is well aware of his lack of minutes on the pitch this year but seemed to indicate last month that he is willing to stay if he is wanted.
“It’s a big thing for my career to compete with these players. I’m okay with the way things are going and I wish Gabriel a quick recovery to return and help the team.”
