Gold Coast 2018: Quadri Powers On, Knee Injury Stops Toriola

Aruna Quadri continued his impressive run in Men’s Table Tennis event of 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast by defeating Singapore’s SGP Xue Jie Pang 4-1 in Men’s Singles Round of 16 at Oxenford Studios, TT Table 5 on Thursday morning.

The Nigeria won 11-8, 8-11, 11-5, 11-5 to advance to the quarter-finals, and earlier paired Segun Toriola to beat Mas  Mas Choong Javen and Leong Chee Feng of Malaysia 3-1 Men’s Doubles Round of 16 at Oxenford Studios 7-11, 11-9, 8-11, 5-11.

A knee injury forced Segun Toriola to retire in the 2nd game of the Men’s Singles Round of 16 match against Sathiyan Gnanasekaran of Indian. The veteran was trailing 7-11,5-9 when he threw in the towel.

In the Women’s TT6-10 Singles Group 2-Game 6 at Oxenford Studios, TT Table 2, Nigeria’s Faith Obazuaye beat Stephane Chan of Canada 3-0* 11-7,11-5,11-9 while Temitope Ogunsanya  fell by same margin to Engalnd’s Ross Wilson in Men’s TT6-10 Singles Group 2 – Game 5
