Australian Open champion, Roger Federer is grateful to Australia for the support, the passion and epic memories during the tournament.
“Thank you Australia for the support, the passion and all the epic memories. Can’t wait until next year. #RF20 #ausopen #Norman #readyforsomerest,” the big Swiss tweeted a few days after winning the tournament to clinch his 20th Grand Slam title after defeating Croatian Marin Cilic in the final in five sets on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Federer has been given personalised honour after the first Grand Slam of the year in Melbourne.
He was the subject of a special campaign in Switzerland earlier this week when he was honoured with a personalised edition of one of the country’s biggest newspapers.
And Swiss newspaper Blick, the country’s only tabloid, have signified the occasion by charging just 20 cents – compared to a usual price of 2.50 Swiss francs, along with Federer’s face mocked up on a coin.
“Roger Federer has long been an icon,” said Felix Bingesser, Blick’s sports editor-in-chief.
