FC Zurich are delighted to complete the singing of Nigeria striker Stephen Odey after a protracted delay.
Head of Sport at Swiss top flight club Thomas Bickel spoke glowingly of the former MFM FC striker, who weighed in with 18 goals during the recently concluded 2016-2017 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
“Stephen became the top scorer in his country and was called up to the national team at the age of just 19. We’re very happy that he’d like to make the next step in his career at our club,” the former Switzerland international said in a statement on the club’s official website on Wednesday.
The statement further reads:“19-year-old Nigerian striker Stephen Odey joins FC Zurich from MFM FC Lagos with immediate effect. He has signed a contract until the end of the 2020/2021 season.
“FC Zurich and Odey had already agreed on this transfer a few weeks ago, but clearance by FIFA had been outstanding. Clearance has now been received today, which makes the 182 cm tall striker eligible to play for FC Zurich as of now.
“During the past two years, Odey played for MFM FC Lagos in Nigeria’s first division and became the league’s top scorer (18 goals) last season. Last June, Odey made his international debut with Nigeria’s national team in a test match against Togo.”
