Nigeria will face host nation Morocco with a hugely depleted team in Sunday’s 2018 African Nations Championship final starting 8:00pm Nigerian time at Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca.
Sportsrollcall.com understands that the team’s first choice and captain Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Cletus Itodo and Sunday Faleye have all been ruled out by injuries. Star midfielder, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi is also not available due to suspension. The Akwa United player was excluded as the team resumed training on Friday ahead of the game following their arrival from Marrakech, where they defeated Sudan 1-0 at the semi-finals.
A total of 19 players trained under the watchful eyes of Coach Salisu Yusuf, who believes his team can pull the chestnut out of fire against their opponents who will enjoy massive support from home crowd.
“We are ready for the battle. We count on the Nigerian spirit again as we aim for the big prize🏆 #CHAN2018 #NPFL18 @thenff @NGSuperEagles,” the former Kano Pillars handler tweeted on Friday.
Sportsrollcall.com also gathered that some of the players who trained under floodlight on Friday night are not 100% fit.
Nigeria have participated at three of five finals of the tournament meant for players in domestic leagues. The Super Eagles failed to reach the finals of the first two editions in 2009 and 2011 and finished third in 2014 in South Africa.
Libya and Sudan will face off losers’ final at Marrakech later in the day.
