Anthony Ujah is delighted to rejoin Mainz 05, expressing his determination to help the team in the second half of the Bundesliga season.
The Nigeria striker spoke to the club’s official website after sealing his three and a half years deal on Wednesday that saw team up with Nigeria defender Leon Balogun at the club , where he played in the 2011/12 season before joining FC Cologne.
“I am very happy that I return to Mainz because I have only good memories of my time there, I am looking forward to the Bundesliga as well and I want to help the team from the second half of the season to reach,” said the 27-year-old who joins from Chinese first division side Liaoning FC, where he played since the summer of 2016.
Both parties have agreed not to disclose the transfer modalities, but Sports Director, Rouven Schröder extolled the virtues of Ujah in chat to the club’s website.
He said: “Anthony Ujah is an athletic, determined and strong attacker who has proved his qualities at the Bundesliga level and adds real value to our squad, and he is a great character and will not be due to his Mainz past We need to make sure that he has decided on a future at Mainz 05.”
Ujah had left Mainz for Cologne in 2012, scoring 36 goals in three years (two second division seasons and a Bundesliga season). In the 2015/16 season he played for SV Werder Bremen, netting 14 times in 37 Bundesliga matches.
